Last week, the technical team at NVISO returned from an amazing trip to Las Vegas, where we attended both Black Hat USA 2014 & Defcon 22. You can check out our group picture below – one of the rare occasions in which you won’t see us “suit up”! 😉
NVISO’s technical team posing at BlackHat USA 2014!
We enjoyed several great talks covering a range of interesting topics including malware, forensics and (post)-exploitation. We were also present to support our colleague Arne Swinnen, who was one of the speakers at Black Hat this year. Together with Alaedinne Mesbahi, Arne presented a well-received talk about modern Anti-Virus detection techniques, after which Arne and Alaedinne presented several novel evasion technique that can be used to stay completely undetected by antivirus products. More details on their talk can be found at this link.
Of course we also took the time to visit the Las Vegas landmarks, including the famous Strip (where we also passed a tiny bit of time emptying the famous casino “slots”!) and Fremont Street. On Monday, we rented a car and made a daytrip to see the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Impressive to say the least!
By the time we took this picture, Arne had already fallen into the canyon…
This trip was not only a full learning experience, but also a team event where we got to know each other a lot better. We look forward to one of the next editions of BlackHat and Defcon so we can make another trip to Vegas!
Sunny greetings from Las Vegas,
NVISO’s technical team – Annika, Arne, Jeroen, Erik and Daan.
